UNIVERSITI Kebangsaan Malaysia's (UKM) Institute of Ethnic Studies recently organised an art event called "My Friends and I, My Neighbours and 1", which aimed to foster greater unity through art among the younger generation through the university's "Kesepaduan Melalui Seni" (Unity Through Art) initiative. Almost 50 pupils from four schools in Bangi took part in the event, namely SJK (C) Yu Hua, Kajang, SK Bandar Baru Bangi, SK Jalan Tiga and SJK (T) West Country. The students produced a total of 50 art masterpieces. The paintings were judged by artist and publisher Yusof Gajah, who also taught the children about the importance of unity and art. The art pieces were displayed at UKM's exhibition hall for public viewing and purchasing. With an average selling price of RM250, more than RM3,000 has been raised so far. The proceeds will be donated to Hospital UKM to benefit the children's ward. MBG FruitShop contributed RM10,000 towards the event.
